Mel, Elvin, Hugo and the New Ambassador

September 18th, 2008 · No Comments · General

My Fletcher classmate and fellow CRS Fellow Marc recently wrote a post about politics in Bosnia.  So with a little inspiration I thought I would give a glimpse of the political landscape here in Honduras or at least the little bit that I understand.  Rather than try for a comprehensive post which is beyond my current [...]

Jacob’s Spanish Tutor

September 17th, 2008 · No Comments · General

I’ve written in the blog before about how strange it is to live in Teguc and to be able to recreate many aspects of our stateside life.  We go to Costco (Pricesmart here), eat baked macaroni and cheese and buy Kraft parmesan, swing by Office Depot to pick up office supplies, have the option of [...]

Google Makes My Head Hurt

September 5th, 2008 · No Comments · General, Kids

I love to be amazed.  I like shiny things.  Google makes shiny things.
The newest tweak to Myette.org is on our photo album page that is hosted by Picasa (Google’s photo sharing software and website).  Amidst the hype of Chrome, Google’s new web browser released on Tuesday, was the much less hyped release of a new version [...]

Gustav, Michele and Twitter

August 29th, 2008 · No Comments · General

For those of you not in the Caribbean basin and glued to the National Hurricane Center website, Gustav has been plowing through the Caribbean wavering back and forth between a hurricane and a tropical storm.  At the moment it’s moving away from Jamaica after slowing making it’s way across the island over the last 18 [...]

Two Weeks

August 12th, 2008 · No Comments · General

We’ve been in Honduras for two weeks now and this seems like a good opportunity to pause and reflect on the weeks behind us and the week ahead.  We’ve had a great two weeks in which we’ve gotten so much accomplished.  We were lucky - my boss has been in the States on vacation and I couldn’t start work [...]

2 for 12

July 28th, 2008 · No Comments · General

We’ve landed in Tegucigalpa!  After a 2 ½ hour flight from Miami to Guatemala we got on a little 40 seater prop plane for the 1 hour connecting flight to Teguc.  Flying Taca with luggage is always an adventure so we were exited to be able to look out the window in Guatemala and account [...]

The St. Pestas and the Great North Country

July 14th, 2008 · No Comments · General

Our friends Kristel (Pesta) and Nicholas (St. Ores) got married this weekend.  Kristel is Jacob’s godmother and both Kristel and Nicholas were volunteers with us in Honduras.  It was a great fiesta of a wedding with about 15 former Finca volunteers in attendance.

We also had a chance to spend some time with Erika’s cousin Bill and [...]

Myette Family 1, Disney 0

July 14th, 2008 · No Comments · General

We dared to do it.  We took Michael, Jacob and Maggie to Disney World.  Erika has been dying to take the kids and it turns out my sisters godfather was able to get us in for practically free so I consented to put on my good attitude and trek up to Orlando.
It turned out to [...]
