Myette Update

March 7th, 2004 ·

With great excitement, and a little nervousness, I’m writing to you about an exciting new opportunity for our family. After months of conversation, prayer and discernment we were offered and have accepted an opportunity to volunteer with the Farm of Child, an orphanage in Trujillo, Honduras. Erika, Michael and I will be moving to Central America in mid-July, first to Guatemala for 3 months of language school, and then to the Farm on October 1st to begin 27 months of service.

In the last several months the readings in church have highlighted moments where people of faith have turned to the Lord and said, “There is work to be done; send me.” As I sat in church I felt those same words rising within me.

Erika and I have been talking about volunteering overseas since before we were married and now is the time. We truly feel that we are living out our call and our vocation to serve those in need wherever they may be. We are also very excited to have the opportunity to for Michael to experience another culture and for him to grow up bilingual (unfortunately he’ll probably be correcting our Spanish within a year).

Here is the web site for the Farm if you’d like to see some photos and read more about it. http://www.farmofthechild.org

The next few months will be full of anticipation as we get medical check-ups (and shots!), prepare to leave our jobs, pack, and spend time with family. Part of our preparation is to get some contact information in order, so please forgive me as I update e-mail addresses etc. For our part here are a few details and notes on keeping in touch.

We are also putting together an e-mail list of people who are interested in getting occasional updates from Honduras. Just drop me an e-mail and let me know if you’d like to be added to that list.

Our website has a new home. It isn’t quite fully functional yet, but it’s got some recent pictures of Michael and I’ll be working on it some more in the coming weeks.

So that’s our big update. We’re excited to be starting this incredible adventure. Thank you all for your continued support and love for us. We couldn’t do it without you!
